Border Patrol apprehends six sex offenders in just days

Border Patrol American US SecurityTUCSON - The Tucson Sector Border Patrol says its agents apprehended six sex offenders over the weekend that had illegally entered the United States from Mexico. The agency says five of the offenders were arrested for sex crimes against children.

Months before a suspected drug smuggler was accused of running down and killing a local Border Patrol agent in January 2008, U.S. officials had him in custody, only to see him escape in a Border Patrol vehicle.

Mexican national extradited to U.S. in death of Border Patrol agent

Border Patrol American US SecurityA 24-year-old Mexican national has been extradited to the U.S. to stand trial on charges of drug smuggling and second-degree murder for allegedly running over a Border Patrol agent in the Imperial Valley in 2008, the U.S. attorney's office in San Diego announced today.

When the individual was processed using the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, records showed that he had an outstanding warrant for homicide.

Convicted border agent trying to start over

Border Patrol American US SecurityFive years ago, Ignacio Ramos was pulling long shifts as a senior U.S. Border Patrol agent, chasing smugglers and immigrants along the Rio Grande. He'd coached Little League long enough that dozens of teenagers called him “Coach Nacho.”

He and his wife, Monica, both born and raised in El Paso, were busy working and raising three boys.

Their life was, in his words, completely normal. Not boring. Just normal.

Christian Daniel Castro Alvarez said he lured Agent Robert Rosas out of his car last July 23 and struggled over his gun during a robbery attempt, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Border Agent shoots pickup truck driver near border

Border Patrol American US SecuritySAN DIEGO – At least one Border Patrol agent shot the driver of a pickup as it tried to run over agents who were detaining two suspected illegal immigrants near the U.S.-Mexico border Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The man driving the truck was later detained in the Nestor neighborhood and taken to a hospital for treatment, said supervisory Agent Daryl Reed, a Border Patrol spokesman. He did not know where or how many times the man was shot.

Border Patrol Agents Face Rockings

Border Patrol American US SecurityGetting pelted with rocks -- it's an increasing trend for some local Border Patrol Agents.

Border Patrol Agents in Calexico, part of the El Centro sector, say they've seen an increasing number of rockings. Since the 2009 fiscal year began, agents say they've seen more than 100 rockings.

Agent Keith Croxton has experienced this first hand, and says it can be scary. First thing, his "adrenaline level spikes; you clear yourself and check your vehicle." After all, "anytime threat of health or well being there is a level of fear involved."

Border Patrol offers $250K reward in agent's death

Border Patrol American US SecurityCHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) - The U.S. Border Patrol is offering a $250,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting death of one of its agents.

Agent Robert Rosas was shot July 23 near Campo, Calif., while responding to reports of suspicious activity in an area known for the smuggling of drugs and illegal immigrants.

AZ - Border Patrol agents again targeted in 'rocking' attacks

Border Patrol American US SecurityTUCSON, AZ -- When it comes to rocking assaults, it just goes with the territory for U.S. Border Patrol agents in southern Arizona.

Agents in the Tucson Sector were subjected to several of these attacks last weekend -- people throwing rocks from the Mexican side of the border.

On Friday night, several people who were trying to enter the country illegally 'rocked' an agent just east of the DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales.
