DENVER (CBS4/AP) ―
The protesters are voicing opposition to plans
by Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez to introduce what the group is calling
"amnesty legislation" by the end of November.
"We're just here to say, 'No,'" protester Rhonda Roseto said. "We
have 17 percent unemployment. We don't need to reward people that are
here illegally."
"I think any immigration system that's set up the way ours is
currently set up is anti-liberty," said Elliott Fladen, who supports
illegal immigration reform. "And for that reason, I stand against those
who are here today."
Protesters met on the west steps of the state Capitol in Denver at 10 a.m. and in Durango at Santa Rita Park at 1 p.m.
