(CNSNews.com) - The Senate voted 68-32 on Thursday afternoon for an immigration bill that would legalize illegal aliens and eventually put them on a path to U.S. citizenship.

Fourteen Republicans, led by Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), joined with every Senate Democrat to vote in favor of legalizing illegal aliens.

In addition to Rubio, the Republicans voting for legalization included Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Chiesa (N.J.), Susan Collins (Me.), Bob Corker (Tenn.), Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Lindsey Graham S.C.), Orrin Hatch (Utah), Heller (Nev.), John Hoeven (N.D.), John McCain (Ariz.), Murkowski (Alaska).

The bill gives Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano the power to grant legal residency status to illegal aliens in the United States after she has presented--but not executed--a plan for securing the border.

The bill expressly states that these illegal aliens can have up to two convictions for driving under the influence before enactment of the bill and still be legalized. The Senate Judiciary Committee, which drafted the bill, turned down an amendment offered by Sen. Chuck Grassley that would have required illegal aliens to simply reveal to the Department of Homeland Security the Social Security Numbers they falsely used while illegally in the United States.

According to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration it is a felony to falsely use a Social Security Number.

In an Oct. 24, 2010 nationally televised debate, while he was running for the Senate, former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio said that giving illegal aliens an "earned path to citizenship" was "code for amnesty."
