• Establishment Republicans Support Amnesty - Is Gun Control Next?

Establishment Republicans like Grover Norquist, Haley Barbour, Charles Krauthammer, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) all panicked following the defeat of Mitt Romney and, like a routed army with no leadership, they are in full retreat. However, in this case they are not just throwing their arms away as they desert the battlefield, they are also jettisoning their principles.

According to these establishment Republicans, who have spent years driving the Republican party down the road to permanent minority status, Republicans must support amnesty for millions of illegal aliens in order to win the Hispanic vote (even though Hispanics have consistently favored Democrats by a margin of 20 to 30 percent in presidential elections since 1980).

However, once they stop running and look behind them, establishment Republicans will find that illegal immigration is the least of the party's worries. It pales when compared to millions of American women who support the Democrats' gun control policies. According to a recent Pew Research Center poll, far more women than men favor banning semi-automatic weapons (67 percent to 48 percent); creating a federal data base to track sales (73 percent to 61 percent); and banning assault-style weapons (59 percent to 50 percent).

So, does this mean that establishment Republicans will abandon the Second Amendment in an effort to close the gender gap and increase the number of women voting for their candidates?

Given the record of establishment Republicans, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that they would compromise on the Second Amendment in a last-ditch effort to save their party. After all, they have already shown that they are willing to turn their backs on the rule of law and grant amnesty to illegal aliens who have committed employment-related felonies; that they will sacrifice innocent American children who are victims of illegal alien identity theft for votes; that they will reward and further a culture of corruption; and that they will tell everyone who immigrated legally and played by the rules that they were fools to have obeyed the law.

If establishment Republicans think they can win by becoming a Democratic Party-Light, they are wrong. After all, why would anyone vote for them when they can have the real thing? And why should their voter base that supports limited government, fiscal responsibility, the rule of law, and the Second Amendment continue to support them?

Establishment Republicans have to make a decision. Will they stand for principle and the Constitution or will they sacrifice everything, including the rule of law and the Second Amendment, in a vain effort to retain their power and influence? Only time will tell.
