• Illegal alien killed teenager in Iowa DUI crash

On Thursday, Pottawattamie County Judge Tim O’Grady sentenced Hilberto Velasquez-Ramirez to up to 25 years in prison, after the illegal alien pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular homicide.

On July 5, 2013, 17-year-old Chrishaun Moten was killed when the Mexican national slammed his minivan into the 2001 Chevy Cavalier, in which Moten was a passenger.

The crash occurred on Veterans Memorial Highway just shortly after midnight.

    The World-Herald News Service reported:

Brenden Kniesly, 18, of Council Bluffs was driving the Cavalier, and Moten was sitting directly behind him in the vehicle. Jessilyn Eisman, 16, and Philip Moffatt, 17, also both from Council Bluffs, were also in the vehicle.

The Council Bluffs Police Department said the teens were hit by a 1996 Chevy Astrovan driven by Velasquez-Ramirez traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Kniesly swerved to the right to avoid the collision, but the van hit the Cavalier broadside, police said, with the rear driver’s side backseat position taking the brunt of the damage.

Both Moffatt and Kniesly were seriously injured in the wreck as well.

Moten was a student at Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs.

When he was taken into custody, Velasquez-Ramirez’s blood alcohol level was .178, more than twice the legal limit.
