Three million a day is spent to incarcerate illegals and 30 percent of all federal prison inmates are illegal aliens.

He said a an estimated one million rapes in the United States are committed by illegal aliens, a fact that does not seem to concern law enforcement or they simply do not want to know.

He noted that persons here illegally annually sent $45 billion home to Mexico.

Martinez said the solution does not lie in more laws, but in enforcing the laws that already exist.

He added that the E-verify process is a simple solution to the problem employers have in identifying the status of job applicants. It involves sending the Social Security number shown on the employment application to a center at the Social Security Administration, where the number is matched to the name appearing on the application.

Martinez said that the number of suspected illegals in the United States now numbers between 20 and 30 million.

He also noted that the Bracero Program of the 1950s worked very well. Farmers were able to hire pre-screened people from Mexico, the Honduras and Central America. Currently, there is a program called H-2 which allows temporary employment for six to nine months. However, under this program, employers must show that they can pay for medical coverage if the employee becomes ill and the workers Social Security payment. He noted that most people here illegally prefer to work for cash.

This administration is against catching illegals,” Martinez said. He added that the Border Patrol had even been told not to go after them, as well as other branches of law enforcement. Instead, they have focused on businesses hiring illegals, imposing fines for a first offense and jail time for a second offense.

Martinez said HR 140 is legislation that would do away with the anchor-baby concept. Under this measure, if the two parents who are not legal have a child born here, the child will also be considered illegal. He noted that in Mexico itself, only “birth of blood” is recognized, whereas “birth of land” is recognized currently in the U.S., making America one of only a few countries that recognize birth of land.

Under the new law, if one parent is a citizen or a legal immigrant, the child would be a citizen.

At the April 16th meeting of the RWWC, the guest speaker will be Dr. Horward Gladowitz, who has spent time in China. His presentation is titled “Engines of Change.” The regular monthly meeting is held at the Texas Tea Room in Quitman starting at 11:30 a.m. New members are very welcome.
