$2.9 Million in Drugs Found During 7 Bust in 1 Day

RIO GRANDE CITY - Border Patrol Agents have seized $2.9 Million of marijuana following seven drug busts in one day.

The largest seizure happened when agents spotted a Ford F-150 pick-up truck emerging from a dirt road traveling away from the Rio Grande River. As agents attempted to follow the vehicle, but the driver took off. The driver abandoned the truck and fled on foot. Inside the truck agents found 1,305 pounds of marijuana.

The second large seizure happened when agents saw a 1996 white Dodge extended cab pick-up traveling on Highway 83 with a blanket covering the contents in the bed. As the suspect vehicle approached a traffic light on Efren Ramirez Road, agents attempted to pull up alongside to take a look. When the truck came to a stop at the light, the driver abandoned it and fled the scene. Agents discovered 984 pounds of marijuana.

A total of 3,634 pounds of marijuana was confiscated with a street value of $2,907,200.
