$241,000 In Cash Seized At Border Crossing

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. -- Federal agents taking part in routine vehicle checks at the San Ysidro Port of Entry over the weekend confiscated about $241,000 in undeclared currency that had been hidden in a pickup truck.

The southbound 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche entered the inspection port Sunday afternoon, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

A search of the vehicle revealed a secret compartment containing 15 packages of cash, CBP spokeswoman Angelica De Cima said.

Officers seized the money and truck, arrested the driver, a 38-year-old Mexican national legally residing in Chula Vista, and took her three underage passengers into custody. The children later were turned over to a relative.

Travelers must declare cash in amounts more than $10,000 when entering or leaving the United States.

$241,000? That's a lot of money saved up to take south of the border isn't it?
Wonder what happens to that money?

The most striking part of this is that she had kids with her. With as much killing goes on over drugs and money, the last thing any self-respecting and caring adult would do would be to bring kids along. The fact she was driving a 2007 Avalanche to run drug? money tells us she's also not very bright.

Who knows. It would go a long way towards building a Duncan Hunter style fence. Boy does this country ever have its priorities mixed up. If the US took all of the cash siezed in drug raids, the fence funding would be there.
