    U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers Seize Nearly $600,000 in Cocaine at Brownsville Port of Entry

    (Tuesday, March 01, 2011)

    Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge this weekend discovered cocaine valued at approximately $598,400 concealed within a Volkswagen Jetta.

    On Sunday, February 27, CBP officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge intercepted a man driving a gray 2001 Volkswagen Jetta as he approached the primary inspection station. The driver, identified as a 27-year-old male Mexican citizen who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, was escorted to secondary for further inspection after a primary CBP officer discovered undeclared packages hidden within the Jetta. Examination by CBP officers in secondary revealed nine concealed packages within the Volkswagen. CBP officers removed the packages from the vehicle which had a combined total weight of 8.47 kilograms (18.7 pounds) of alleged cocaine.

    The alleged cocaine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $598,400. CBP officers turned the man over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the Narcotics and the vehicle.

    CBP: Brownsville teen tried to smuggle heroin

    A young Brownsville man was arrested by federal officers Tuesday after he allegedly tried to smuggle $600,000 worth of heroin into the United States.

    U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Gateway International Bridge found the heroin in a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, a press release stated.

    The 18-year-old was driving into the U.S. when he was ordered to undergo a secondary inspection. It was there CBP says some of its officers found the six pounds of heroin hidden in the vehicle.

    The drugs and car were seized while the suspect was turned over to ICE-Homeland Security Investigations.

    Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Gateway International Bridge on Tuesday discovered heroin valued at approximately $600,000 concealed in a Chevrolet Cavalier and arrested the driver.

    On Tuesday, March 1, CBP officers at the Gateway International Bridge encountered a man later identified as an 18-year-old U.S. citizen who resides in Brownsville, Texas driving a white 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier. After a primary inspection by CBP officers, the male driver and the vehicle he was driving were referred to secondary for further examination. CBP officers in secondary discovered nine bundles hidden within the Cavalier containing approximately 2.72 kilograms (six pounds) of alleged heroin.

    The alleged heroin from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $600,000. CBP officers turned the man over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.
