‘Cartel Threatening a Blood Bath’: Huge Border Protest Was Just Cancelled

‘Cartel Threatening a Blood Bath’: Huge Border Protest Was Just Cancelled for a Disturbing Reason (UPDATE)

    Sep. 20, 2014 6:04am Zach Noble

UPDATE (9:30 a.m. EDT): One of the “Shut Down All Ports of Entry” organizers has shed more light on why the protest was called off hours before it was supposed to begin: cartel threats.

“It was [a] cartel threatening a blood bath, [Facebook] hits coming [en] masse from Mexico,” Stasyi Barth told TheBlaze Saturday. “One of the organizers was being followed and was verbally told not to go.”

The plan had been to take a stand for American sovereignty, with ordinary citizens taking action to block the ports of entry along the U.S. border.

But early Saturday morning, a lead organizer of the “Shut Down All Ports of Entry” protest pulled the plug: Because of “an unsubstantiated threat of mass violence to attendees,” the event was cancelled mere hours before it was supposed to begin.

Citing the threat of violence and “suspicious activity” on the group’s Facebook page, Stasyi Barth said the protest was cancelled around 5 a.m. EDT Saturday.

“Your lives, and the lives of our law enforcement, are more important than any protest,” she wrote.

The protest had called for “deeply concerned” Americans to coordinate en masse and drive up to ports of entry all along the U.S. border and stop their vehicles, with the hope, organizers said, that the resulting economic disruption would force elected officials on both sides of the border to find solutions to illegal immigration into the U.S.

“[Support for the protest is in] Arizona, Texas, everywhere,” Barth, who’s based in California, told TheBlaze on Friday. “We have a Constitution that’s not being abided by. Americans are losing their rights, and America is losing its sovereignty.”

On Friday, Barth said she could not say how many people planned to participate in the protest, though the number of members of the “Shut Down All Ports of Entry” Facebook group — nearly 2,000 early Saturday — gives some indication.

The planned protest had been painted as a militia movement and criticized by government officials and law enforcement over the past few weeks, but Barth stressed that the protest was always meant to be a peaceful affair.

Here’s the list of ports of entry that had been slated for closure, as Breitbart reported:

Texas: Laredo, Rio Grande City, Presidio, Hildago, Brownsville and Del Rio.

California: Calexico West, Calexico East, Stay Mesa, Tecate and San Ysidro.

New Mexico: Columbus and Santa Theresa.

Arizona: Naco, Nogales, Douglas and San Luis.

It remains unclear whether protestors might still show up despite the cancellation for the protests, which were slated to begin at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday.

It was also unclear early Saturday how law enforcement, which had prepared to deploy “whatever force is necessary” to keep the ports open during the protest, might investigate the threats of violence that got the event cancelled.

Threats of “mass violence” cancel border protest

POSTED 7:57 AM, SEPTEMBER 20, 2014, BY CHRISTIAN DE LA ROSA

San Diego — Efforts to shut down the border at ports of entry throughout the border line with Mexico were cancelled hours before the event was supposed to take place.

“There has been an unsubstantiated threat of mass violence to attendees,” said protest organizer, Stasyi Barth.

Demonstrators planned to park their vehicles on the highway, making a barricade that would block traffic both coming in and out of the United States and Mexico.

“We need to bring attention to the border,” said Barth, who is frustrated with what she explained as Congress’ inability to secure the border and get a handle on the nation’s illegal immigration issue.

Protesters had initially also wanted to call on the release of U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, jailed in Tijuana accused of illegally bringing weapons into Mexico.

But the call turned controversial when the jailed Marine’s mother publicly disapproved of the protest.

“The family would like to make clear that we believe any plan to shut down border crossings is not an acceptable way to protest Andrew’s confinement. Demonstrations like this are not effective and needlessly inconvenience and endanger others, including hard-working law enforcement officers and citizens on both sides of the border,” said Jill Tahmooressi.

This is not intended to belittle anyone. People use their best judgment when confronted with a problem. But the idea that protests by American citizens can be vetoed by foreigner hoodlums is very distressing. If the drug cartels can do that, then we have no country now. Our government is nullified and we have become absorbed into the Mexican, gangster ruled government. Are patriots willing to accept that?

To quote an organizer of the protest: “Your lives, and the lives of our law enforcement, are more important than any protest.”

I beg to differ. “Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war let it begin here.” Captain John Paarker to his Minute Men on Lexington Green, April 19, 1775.

Some protest ARE WORTH DYING FOR. There would have been no Concord, no Bunker Hill and no U.S.A. had we capitulated to threats of violence. Have we come so far down that we are now afraid of foreigner hoodlums from dysfunctional third word countries?

I am certainly not surprised that cartels would feel emboldened with our national attention directed towards the middle east again. When involved there since Desert Storm we have never given attention adequately to our southern border. We send air forces to the middle east over the death of two Americans, but threaten hundreds, maybe thousands, and our government has made no noise or effort to protect Americans rights.

Involving ourselves in the middle east always leads to thousands of "refugees" into the country, which fuels more chain migration that fuels more depressed American wages.

We have to connect more dots than we have been. The American Congress is anti-Americans, whether intentionally or not. We need complete change in Washington, and this action displays that American forces will be used forcefully for the benefit of others, but not even mentioned for the defense of Americans threatened by those just a few miles away!!

We must restore pride in America, and not be so proud of those serving government!

'SHUT DOWN ALL PORTS OF ENTRY' PROTEST CANCELED OVER CARTEL THREATS

    by MICHELLE MOONS 20 Sep 2014, 9:12 AM PDT 13POST A COMMENT

Early Saturday morning, an email went out from “Shut Down All Ports of Entry” protest organizer Stasyi Barth stating that due to “threat of mass violence to attendees, along with very suspicious activity on the Facebook site,” plans to protest along the entire length of the U.S.-Mexico border had been cancelled. This just hours before the protests were scheduled to take place.

“Shut Down All Ports of Entry” had planned to block border crossings stretching from San Ysidro in San Diego, California, the busiest land port of entry in the western hemisphere, to Brownsville, Texas. The stated aim of the protest was to send a message to government regarding seven stated issues, Breitbart recently reported.

In a Friday evening message, the protest organizer, Stasyi Barth wrote, “Stay safe, take lots of pictures and enjoy expressing your right to peacefully assemble and air your grievances to your government!”

However, at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning, a message went out to all protest organizers and on the Facebook page reading, “PROTEST IS CANCELLED.....PROTEST IS CANCELLED......” and went on to mention the threats of violence against protestors.

Breitbart Texas received the following from Barth Saturday morning:
Cartel threatening mass bloodshed. One of the guys in Texas was followed into a Walmart, on the freeway, then approached at his hotel. At the same time, I got a bunch of requests to join the [Facebook] page from Sonora Mexico. I grabbed as many as I could, but realized it was getting out of control fast, and I didn’t want them to see who the attendees were. This is after it was requested that we avoid certain areas, because of the recent border threats, unrelated to us. The cartel has people at every port listed... waiting for us, so I was told.

Barth cited threats of violence from these sources as the reason for cancelling the event, saying, “Risking anyone's life is not worth it!”

Barth warned in prior communications regarding the event, “There very well may be a counter-protest at the ports.”

Along the way, event plans have met a number of obstacles, which raise the question of the "unsubstantiated" threat’s legitimacy. At one point, confusion ensued over whether or not the event was connected to the militia. That connection was quickly refuted. Whether the source of the "unsubstantiated threat" actually has any connection to cartels has also not yet been verified.

Breitbart Texas reported this morning: “While the protest calling for the shut-down of the bridges had a big following on social media, it remains unclear if there were any protesters actually willing to shut down the bridge. Around the various bridges and rallying points, Breitbart Texas reporters didn’t see any individuals that may have been preparing for a protest.”
