Sixteen people killed in Juárez during past four days

Sixteen people were killed during a four-day in Juárez, including two traffic cops who were gunned down Saturday.

Officers Pablo Ontiveros RodrÃ*guez, 38, and Franklin MartÃ*nez Uribe, 36, were attacked while they pulled over two motorists for a traffic violation, authorities said.

Several gunmen opened fire against the officers at Ejército Nacional and Rancho Mesteñas Street, in the Pradera Dorada neighborhood in northern Juárez. One of the wounded officers reportedly sought shelter inside a nearby shopping mall. He was pronounced death later at a local hospital. His partner was found lying next to a vehicle he pulled over moments before. An unidentified motorist was wounded during the shooting and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
