Petitions Headed to White House on Behalf Of Agents Ramos and Compean As Incarceration Nears

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With fourteen days
remaining until U.S. Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean
report to federal prison to begin serving more than decade-long prison
terms, Grassfire.org continues leading the grassroots charge to pardon
these lawmen.
"Since our news conference in California with Congressman Rohrabacher
just prior to Christmas, nearly 40,000 citizens have added their names to
our 'Pardon the Agents' petition," says Steve Elliott, president of

Congress wants to begin the New Year with these two men going to prison for
attempting to apprehend an illegal alien drug smuggler. The President has
the authority to correct this terrible miscarriage of justice, and the

that has resulted in more than 23,000 faxes sent to the White House, U.S.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez and key members of Congress "Just 14 days
remain before agents Ramos and Compean are forced to report to prison, and
we are taking the grassroots voice to Washington and the White House," says

Great news to hear that. Wonder if he's going to listen to the citizens?

I have a terrible feeling these men will not survive prison, we have to get the judge to allow these men to remain out of prison while they are fighting for their appeals in thier case, I am afraid the President is so dam stubborn he will not pardon these border guards esp. as I feel it came directly from him and Gonzales to indicte these guards to make an example of them so the other border guards would not make the same mistake they did, that being, doing to good of a job on the border!

Nitty- i have the same fear. Didn't bush already say he wouldn't pardon them? I don't think he will do it, regardless of what the citizens want. He hasn't listened to us thus far. I do hope he has a change of heart. This is a travesty!

I know my family won't even watch on TV when that day comes. The history books are going to put him down as the worst President this nation has ever had since this nation began.

President Bush will do as AG Gonzales advises him to do in this matter. It's as simple as that. Personally, I'm of the opinion Gonzales should be attacked on this issue without mercy. After all, AG Gonzales is, without a doubt, the man who controlled (from the shadows ) the case from start to end. I firmly believe Bush is merely a puppet on a string who is being muniplated by Gonzales on many of the legal issues regarding illegal immigration and border security, least of which includes the Ramos and Campeon case. Is there anyone here who doesn't believe Gonzales has the authority to file a motion requesting the judge vacate Campeon and Ramos' conviction? What about the written statements from the three jury members claiming they were mislead into supporting the guilty vote? That and the later arrest of the witness for drug smuggling should be enough, especially since that later arrest should bring into question the witnesses crediability. At a minimum that should be reason enough for a mistrial. Besides all that, I'm sure it would probably be fairly easy for Gonzales to convince Bush that a pardon is the way to go.....but of course we know that isn't what Gonzales wants.

Heck, Bush says he's the "decider", but I'm beginning to believe his appointed Cabinet members are the real deciders!
