ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Two foreign nationals residing in New York City while in the United States illegally are accused in New Mexico of trying to fraudulently obtain driver's licenses.

State Police say Manuel Chimbo-Pando, 31, of Ecuador and Carlos Turcios of El Salvador, 29, were arrested Tuesday in a joint investigation by State Police and Department of Tax and Revenue agents.

Felony charges in a criminal complaint accuse the men of responding to a newspaper ad, traveling to New Mexico from New York and paying $1,500 to a criminal ring for false documents to use to obtain driver's licenses.

State Police Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez says the two men live in Queens. Gutierrez says investigators determined the men are in the United States illegally but that details on their immigration status aren't immediately available.
