3 FED IMMIGRATION SENTENCES ISSUED

Three Mexican citizens were sentenced this week to federal prison for immigration violations.

Isauro Alanis-Botello, 40, was sentenced to seven years in prison after he pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien previously convicted of an aggravated felony and deported He was found in Smith County on Dec. 14.

He was arrested by Tyler police after a traffic stop for possessing 80 pounds of marijuana. He had been deported in 2002. He was also sentenced to 40 years in state prison in March for possessing the marijuana.

U.S. District Judge Michael Schneider also sentenced Omar Alejandro Pichardo-Peralta, 28, to more than four years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to unlawfully returning to the United States after being deported.

He was arrested in Smith County on Oct. 18, 2005 after he was stopped by sheriff deputies for a traffic stop and found with a controlled substance. He had been deported to Mexico in 1999 for a robbery conviction.

Jose Luis Pescador-Arriaga, 24, was sentenced to six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien. He was arrested Jan. 16 by Jacksonville police for possession and use of inhalants. He was deported to Mexico on Oct. 19, 2005.

Schneider sentenced the men Monday to federal prison.
