Eight undocumented migrants and a bag full of marijuana was pulled from a washed-up boat Tuesday afternoon in Indian River County.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on State Road A1A south of Sebastian Inlet State Park, where they found a female from Cuba, a male from the Dominican Republic, two men from Brazil and two men from the Bahamas with a duffel bag containing 26 pounds of marijuana in a small Boston Whaler boat that had washed ashore, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office Facebook page reports.

Deputies learned during interviews that two other Brazilian men were on the boat but had escaped.

According to the post, the two men were apprehended at 10 p.m. along State Road A1A.

The boat left the Bahamas at midnight May 17 with two of the men from Brazil coordinating a trip to smuggle drugs and people into the United States, deputies said. All of the subjects were turned over to Border Patrol agents and transported to West Palm Beach for interviews.
