(Monday, August 01, 2011)

Tucson, Ariz. – A 31-year-old illegal immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico, arrested Tuesday by Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents, turned out to also be wanted in Oregon for attempted murder.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Casa Grande Station apprehended the subject near San Miguel, Ariz. During processing, the man’s information was entered into the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) and records revealed an active warrant from 2004 out of Oregon City, Ore., for attempted murder and attempted aggravated felony assault with a weapon. The warrant was confirmed by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. The subject will be turned over to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for extradition to Oregon.

All individuals apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using IAFIS. This vital tool can access criminal records throughout the United States, thereby assisting agents in quickly identifying wanted persons and ensuring those individuals are brought to an appropriate law enforcement resolution.

Since launching the Southwest Border Initiative in March 2009, the Department of Homeland Security has made significant investments toward establishing a secure and safe border environment to improve the quality of life throughout Arizona communities.
