ALBERTVILLE, AL — An Albertville man has been arrested on assault and sexual abuse charges after he was discovered fondling a 2-year-old child and then struck the child’s mother, according to Albertville police.

A press release from the Police Department said José Neaves, 27, of 205 Conway St., Albertville, was arrested Saturday and charged with sexual abuse and with misdemeanors of two counts of third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two failure to appear warrants.

According to reports, Neaves was caught in the act of fondling a 2-year-old female by the child’s mother and, when confronted, Neaves became violent and struck the mother while she was holding the child attempting to get away.

The mother and child lived at Neaves’ residence but they were not believed to be related, police said.

The mother was able to reach a phone and call police

Neaves was taken into custody and transported to the Albertville jail.

At the jail it was discovered that the department held two outstanding warrants for failure to appear on Neaves and that Neaves also had been turned over to the custody of Immigration and Custom Enforcement last August.

    The case is under investigation.

A bond amount has not been set.

The woman and the child were transported to Marshall Medical Center South for treatment.

Family values don't stop at the Rio Grand.

    They're just hard working "immigrants".
