Republican Women Ask AL HB56 Conference Committee: Who Will you Stand with: The Obama Administration or Alabama Voters?

    TUSCALOOSA, AL

The Alabama Federation of Republican Women asked a very pointed question of the six legislators appointed to the HB56 conference committee to hammer out a final bill on illegal immigration: "Who will you finally stand with: The Obama Administration or the Alabama taxpayers and its citizens?"

This question referenced this week's U.S. Supreme Court decision to hand the Obama Administration defeat in its challenge to Arizona's law that mandated E-Verify and punished employers who hired illegal aliens.

Elois Zeanah, President of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women, asked committee members to "bring home to Alabama" the effective tool of E-Verify now, upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court to enforce federal immigration laws and hold employers accountable.

Zeanah stated: "We realize that some of you are politically ambitious and depend on campaign contributions from the business lobby that helped write Alabama immigration bills to fend off the use of E-Verify. We also know that some of you represent Alabama districts that are heavily impacted by illegal aliens. This is one of those times that you should definitely not be conflicted to put your political ambitions over the welfare of Alabama citizens and taxpayers in your district!"

Zeanah also asked legislators to send a strong message to illegal aliens who receive free public benefits.

She stated, "Alabama taxpayers can no longer afford the yearly costs of $300 million for illegal aliens! The committee must remove the exemption that Scott Beason added to his substitute HB56 bill to enable illegal aliens to continue to receive tax dollars for family planning services."

"If Alabama legislators have the courage to mandate E-Verify to remove the magnet of jobs, and remove the magnet of welfare for illegal aliens who have children born in Alabama, illegal immigration will be immediately cut through attrition, saving millions of jobs and tax dollars for Alabama citizens," Zeanah concluded.

The six legislators appointed to the committee are Senators Scott Beason, Clay Scofield and Rusty Glover, and Representatives Micky Hammon, Kerry Rich, and Newton Demetrius.
