Another Immigration Reform Rally Is Planned For Fresno

Another Immigration Reform Rally Is Planned For Fresno
    KFSN By Dale Yurong

04/10/2007 - Immigration reform rallies and protests have drawn record crowds in Fresno. Now organizers have another one planned.

A year ago 15,000 people gathered at City Hall as part of a national boycott, a show of support for immigrants rights.

The sequel takes place May 1st, with a march in Fresno and in other cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago. Protestors want to draw attention to recent immigration raids.

Leonel Flores, March Organizer, says "one, stop the raids, stop the deportation of the families. Stop the separation of families. The second is to call President Bush to be flexible."

President Bush's immigration reform proposal calls for temporary work permits costing 3,500 dollars. Undocumented workers already here would have to leave, then pay a 10,000 dollar fine before re-entering.

The plan would also do away with citizenship for family members.

Critics say such a plan is cost-prohibitive for low-wage earners. Rey Leon, Mapa Co-Chairman, says "we speak proudly of family values and we see that the political leadership really doesn't understand what that means when they split up families in a very distasteful, inhumane manner."

A field poll shows more than four out of five California voters support giving legal residence to illegal immigrants.

The May 1st march in Fresno would begin at 4pm at the corner of Chestnut and Kings Canyon, ending in the free speech area on the Fulton Mall. ¶

Flores worries recent immigration raids in Mendota and Madera may instill a sense of fear in some people planning to march but he hopes that won't be the case.

A second march will take place in Mendota on Sunday April 29th.

Attention all trolls and criminal aliens! Please consider marching on May 1st with the rest of the anti-American haters because the only thing you will accomplish is to enrage more and more Americans to finally wake up and act!

PAF, Let's quickly throw that moldy old pretzel away!...You don't know where its been!

PAF, could be! I was hoping he'd choke on the pretzel and barf on some other country's leader. Like father like son!
