    Mike McIntyre

RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - An anti-illegal immigration organization has reversed its decision to stay out of the general election race in the North Carolina 7th Congressional District.

According to the re-election campaign for Congressman Mike McIntyre (D-7th), ALIPAC (Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee) has endorsed him once again.

In 2010, ALIPAC withdrew its support for McIntyre and backed then-challenger Ilario Pantano in the general election. McIntyre beat Pantano that year to retain the seat in Congress. At the time, ALIPAC President William Gheen said it was an effort to punish the Democratic leadership.

This year, after State Senator David Rouzer defeated Pantano for the Republican nomination for the 7th District, Gheen told WECT.com the election had been rigged by the General Assembly who redistricted the 7th in favor of Rouzer.

"Endorsements from any national organization, including ours, are unlikely to change the outcome due to the unscrupulous design of the district," William Gheen wrote at the time. "We do not have plans to make an endorsement at this time. Yet, we commend Congressman Mike McIntyre for his past opposition to amnesty and we ask David Rouzer to consider abandoning his support for agjobs amnesty for illegal immigrants."
Nearly five months later, ALIPAC chose to back McIntyre once again, according to a release.

"We are happy to return our endorsement to Congressman Mike McIntyre; his opposition to any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants makes him a clear choice over David Rouzer, who supports AgJOBS Amnesty for illegals," said William Gheen.

As a Republican, I totally support this decision by ALIPAC and wish Democratic Congressman McIntyre the best of success in his race for another term in Congress. I also hope voters from all parties, including Republicans, will support him because of his commitment to stop illegal immigration and fight for jobs for American Workers.
