Arizona town calls for border security scale back
US town calls for border security scale back As US president calls for increased security along the Mexican border, some residents want their checkpoint dismantled.
Last updated: 13 Mar 2014 19:42As US President Barack Obama calls on Congress for extra funding to increase security along the country's border with Mexico, citizens in Arivaca, Arizona are petitioning the government to dismantle a border checkpoint.
Millions of dollars have already been set aside for fences, towers and border patrols, mostly in Arizona.
But many people in Arivaca are fed up with disruptions caused in their daily lives by the checkpoint and a heavy-handed presence of border patrol agents.
About a third of the people in Arivaca have signed a petition asking the government to dismantle the checkpoint.
Al Jazeera's Rob Reynolds reports from Arivaca, Arizona.
