Asbury Park - A 30-year-old city man sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl on Saturday, police said.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, police received a call from an 11-year-old girl’s mother claiming Francisco Hernandez, of Asbury Park, sexually assaulted the young girl, Detective Capt. Anthony Salerno said. The victim’s family knew Hernandez, he said.

Hernandez was charged with sexual assault of the 11 year old and simple assault against the victim’s mother. He was placed on an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer and bail was set at $100,000 with no 10 percent option.

Salerno said the investigation is ongoing and hat additional charges are expected.

Asbury Park police Detective Daniel Kowsaluk, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency were investigating.
