Assault Incidents Against Border Patrol Agents Up 18 Percent in 2018

File Photo: AFP26 Sep 20181Border Patrol agents continue to be the most assaulted of federal law enforcement officers, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This fiscal year (through August 31), Border Patrol agents became victims of assault 619 times.

“U.S. Border Patrol agents are the most frequently assaulted and most frequently injured federal law enforcement officers,” El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron A. Hull during the groundbreaking of a new border wall segment in El Paso, Texas, last week. “We’ve seen time and time again that the addition of serious infrastructure creates a safer environment for our people to operate. It also creates a safer community on both sides of the border.”

A report released this week by U.S. Customs and Border Protection reveals that Border Patrol agents were the target of various types of assaults 619 times between October 1, 2017, and August 31, 2018. While the number of agents assaulted dropped by eight percent from Fiscal Year 2017, the number of assault incidents actually increased by 18 percent. In Fiscal Year 2017, CBP officials reported 286 incidents of assault compared to 338 in Fiscal Year 2018, the report states.

One of the key features of the new border wall segments being built is the ability for agents to see through the wall so they can be aware of potential threats to their safety, Hull explained. Agents are frequently assaulted by people on the Mexican side of current barriers by throwing rocks over the tops and striking agents during apprehension.

Most recently, two Border Patrol agents assigned to the Fort Brown Station in the Rio Grande Valley Sector were assaulted during an attempt to arrest migrants, Breitbart Texas reported. The migrants attacked agents with rocks as they attempted to secure a group of 19 illegal immigrants. One of the migrants also began fighting with an agent while attempting to place him in custody.

In another incident this month, an illegal immigrant forced a Border Patrol agent to use his firearm to stop an assault. During an arrest attempt in the Del Rio Sector, a 48-year-old Honduran national began fighting with the agent attempting to make an arrest. This forced the agent to draw his firearm and shoot, wounding the migrant in the arm. Doctors at a local hospital treated and released the migrant to Border Patrol agents who processed him for immigration violations and assault.

This wouldn't be happening if our U.S. Congress funded the 30 foot concrete, steel rebar reinforced, border wall Trump campaigned on! The BP may harp about how they want these see through fences, but that kind of fencing works both ways. Illegals can see through the fence too, which allows them to know when the coast is clear for climbing. The 30-foot concrete wall Trump campaigned on with sensor technology would stop much of this silliness.

Beezer---sad to say he won't---but he will brag about all the billions in this new budget for the military, as he signs the build without any wall funding.

I don't want to ever hear anyone say anything about corrupt leadership in other countries, without putting our own at the head of the list. We certainly have corrupt and stupid leadership in our own country.
Any country that has the military and spends the billions we do on the military and will not put one soldier on the border to defend this nation, is both corrupt and stupid.
