Two Arizona men were accused of transporting assault weapons Thursday in Blythe when law enforcement officers stopped a vehicle on Interstate 10 and found rifles, handguns and suspected narcotics, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Members of the Blythe Narcotic Enforcement Team assisted U.S. Border Patrol officers around 11 a.m. Dec. 5, Sgt. Kent Krisell of the sheriff's Colorado River Station said in a statement.

Border Patrol personnel stopped driver Jeffrey Luis Macias, 33, of Phoenix, and passenger Daniel Rene Torres, 22, of Buckeye, in a vehicle on the 10 near Intake Boulevard, Krisell said.

Macias and Torres were allegedly in possession of three AR-15 assault rifles and 13 handguns, including one handgun that was reported stolen, Krisell said.

"Macias was also found in possession of suspected cocaine and heroin," Krisell said. Field-testing of the substances was adequate to book Macias on narcotics charges, Krisell told Patch in a phone interview.

Macias and Torres were booked Thursday afternoon at Blythe Jail, according to inmate records.

Macias was booked on suspicion of two counts of felony possessing narcotics, transporting/sales and possessing assault weapons, and receiving known stolen property, according to inmate records.

Torres was booked on suspicion of transporting/sales and possessing assault weapons, and receiving stolen property.

Macias was released later Thursday on $50,000 bail, according to inmate records. Torres remained locked up Friday in Blythe. His bail was listed at $50,000.

Torres has a court date scheduled Dec. 9 in Blythe, and Macias has a court date scheduled Jan. 16 in Blythe.

The Blythe Narcotic Enforcement Team is comprised of deputies and police based in the Blythe-Palo Verde Valley area.

Anyone with info about drug activity or any other criminal activity was urged to call the Colorado River Station at (760) 921-7900 or Blythe Police Department at (760) 922-6111.
