Thread: AZ - 5 immigrants in country illegally caught, explain path into US

MARICOPA, Ariz. -

Residents in a neighborhood outside Maricopa reported seeing 10 to 30 immigrants in the country illegally who were running around the area asking for food and water.

Pinal County Sheriff's Office received several calls from people in a neighborhood in the 51000 block of West Jennifer Road.

Deputies were able to find five suspects in the area, one of which had a marijuana backpack.

The other suspects apparently ran into the desert and weren't found.

The five people admitted to deputies that they were illegally in the US and were arrested.

Deputies say Juan Sanchez, 23, came into the US illegally through Sonora, Mexico, one week ago.

He was reportedly with a group of 11 people who were chased by US Border Patrol after they crossed. Several people in the group were caught.

Sanchez was previously arrested for a DUI in California, was deported but was planning to return to California.

Daniel Garcia Cruz, 20, told deputies he came into the US illegally through Sonora, Mexico, on Thursday with a group of 14 people.

Deputies say he told them several members of his group were caught by US Border Patrol on Saturday. He was planning to head to California.

Pedro Filimon Ramirez-Garcia, 24, allegedly admitted to coming into the US illegally through Sonora, Mexico, one week ago with a group of 11 people and was planning to go to California.

Lorenzo Perez Santis, 30, told deputies he came into the US illegally through Sonora, Mexico, with 8 people almost two weeks ago. He was planning to head to Tampa, Florida.

Carlos Antonio Grijalva, 36, allegedly came into the US illegally through Sonora, Mexico, by himself just over two weeks ago.

Deputies say he found two bundles of marijuana in the desert and decided to take them.

The bundles weighed 37 pounds with a street value of $27,750.

He was booked into the Pinal County Jail for Possession of Marijuana for Sale, Transportation of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana.

The other four individuals were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.

According to PSCO Sheriff Paul Babau, the Tucson sector of the border is the path of least resistance for hundreds of thousands of immigrants in the country illegally.

Only 123,000 immigrants in the country illegally were arrested in the Tucson Sector last year.

Universal E-Verify would be the most effective tool for eliminating the jobs lure. Stemming the flow of illegal aliens who think that they can get work here would also make it much easier for authorities to hunt down possible terrorists.
