AZ's Sheriff Arpaio stares down opposition, will seek 7th term

    Chad Groening (OneNewsNow.com) Wednesday, March 26, 2014

An immigration enforcement activist is pleased that Maricopa County (Arizona) Sheriff Joe Arpaio is running again for sheriff, despite the hateful opposition lined up against him.

In an official e-mail the embattled sheriff states that after much prayer and a discussion with his wife, he has decided to once again run for re-election. If elected, it would be his seventh term. But Arpaio said he can only be successful if the people support his campaign.

Arpaio, 81, is being attacked on many fronts. The Justice Department has filed several lawsuits against him. A Democrat-led smear campaign drained his campaign resources last spring with a recall election that nearly resulted in his defeat. And there have been rampant charges of racism and racial profiling, all of which he says are unfounded.

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), has been an ardent supporter of the sheriff, who is widely known for cracking down on illegal immigration.

"While he has done a wonderful job as a sheriff and a national spokesman on the issue of illegal immigration, it's probably only a matter of time until he either retires or the enemy takes him down," Gheen offers.

The ALIPAC leader says he wishes Arpaio would have sought higher office – something the sheriff had mentioned he was thinking about. "He was considering a run for governor of Arizona," Gheen notes. "[Governor] Jan Brewer failed to protect the Arizona law. She fought it to the Supreme Court, but she did not succeed in her mission."

Gheen says while Arpaio's position on immigration is supported by 80 percent of the population, he isn't sure that will necessarily translate into a victory for Arpaio.

    NO AMNESTY

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

The word I meant to use was retire no resign, can someone change that for us in both copies?
