Billboard Warns Businesses Not To Hire Illegal Immigrants

    LAST UPDATE: 4/28/2006 6:44:30 AM

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones is putting up a billboard Friday warning business owners not to get mixed up with illegal immigrants.

The billboard is going up on southbound I-75 near Ohio 129, or the Michael Fox Highway, just north of West Chester. The move comes a day after Jones followed through on his promise to round up undocumented workers. Ten so-called "criminal aliens" were arrested on outstanding warrants ranging from domestic violence to sex crimes. They all face deportation hearings.

On Monday, immigrant protests are planned across the United States. Activists are urging immigrants to skip work, avoid spending money, and march in the streets to demonstrate their importance to the US economy. The protests come as US lawmakers debate a wide variety of proposed legislation.

Officers arrest 10 people being held as 'illegal aliens'

HAMILTON - At least 10 people who officials termed "illegal aliens" were arrested Thursday during a joint operation involving agents from the Butler County Sheriff's office and the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"Today was a good day for the Butler County Sheriff's office and law-abiding Butler County citizens," Sheriff Richard K. Jones said as agents processed 10 people on local and federal warrants. All 10 suspects were transferred to a federal facility in Cincinnati pending deportation proceedings. Those arrested are of varying foreign nationalities - including Hispanic and Asian - and were found in Hamilton, Middletown, Fairfield, West Chester Township.

While most were arrested at private residences, Jones said at least one person was arrested at his workplace. Jones last week called for a boycott of businesses that knowingly hire illegal aliens and, in recent weeks, spent $10,000 in Furtherance of Justice funding for an ad campaign warning business owners about the consequences of hiring illegal aliens. However, no charges were brought against business owners on Thursday.
