Bishops Criticize Tough Alabama Immigration Law

CULLMAN, Ala. — On a sofa in the hallway of his office here, Mitchell Williams, the pastor of First United Methodist Church, announced that he was going to break the law. He is not the only church leader making such a declaration these days.

Alabama Religious Leaders Sue to Stop Immigration LawSince June, when Gov. Robert Bentley, a Republican, signed an immigration enforcement law called the toughest in the country by critics and supporters alike, the opposition has been vocal and unceasing.

Thousands of protesters have marched. Anxious farmers and contractors have personally confronted their lawmakers. The American Civil Liberties Union and other civil rights groups have sued, and have been backed by a list of groups including teachers’ unions and 16 foreign countries. Several county sheriffs, who will have to enforce parts of the new law, have filed affidavits supporting the legal challenges.

On Aug. 1, the Justice Department joined the fray, contending, as in a similar suit in Arizona, that the state law pre-empts federal authority to administer and enforce immigration laws.

And on that same day, three bishops sued.

An Episcopal bishop, a Methodist bishop and a Roman Catholic archbishop, all based in Alabama, sued on the basis that the new statute violated their right to free exercise of religion, arguing that it would “make it a crime to follow God’s command to be Good Samaritans.â€

    1. All of these churches that participate needs to have thier tax exempt status yanked from out from under them; I refuse to pay for Illegals because these Bishops are screwed in the head

    2. I hope they are not like the Catholic church that needs more alter boys; for one reason or another

    3. Enough is enough .... If you are bent in the head; you pay for it by paying taxes

Illegals do not tithe, they just take.
You cannot dedicate yourself to America unless you become in every
respect and with every purpose of your will thoroughly Americans. You
cannot become thoroughly Americans if you think of yourselves in groups. President Woodrow Wilson

An ecumenical group of ministers in Auburn are publicly supporting the Aid and Abetting of Illegal Aliens. Enabling the culture of corruption they bring to grow. To name a few, Kidnapping, ID theft, drug wars, murder, vehicular manslaughter, gangs, graffiti, drop houses, hostage taking, blackmail, and these bishops absolutly look forward to more rapes and deaths during home invasions by Illegal Aliens of course.

Great stuff bishops. God love ya all..

    When I was young--

When I was young-- to take the cloth meant you were going to spend your life helping folks to find salvation. You would minister to the spiritual needs of others to achieve salvation. In the process you would try to help with the corporal needs of your flock.

The two young men from my Catholic high school class who entered the priesthood serve(d) God by going to foreign countries. Father Tom passed some years ago. Father John , at 78 year of age, still lives in Central America, helping the young people to have material sustenance and showing the way to salvation.

Today, almost no Americans enter the priesthood. I heard that last year there was not a woman that entered the convent.I do not attend church and do not ever plan to do so. The church has become nothing more than a structure struggling for its survival by catering to illegal immigrants to fill their pews. They have sold out salvation for material goods.

Jesus did not say at Cana, "Go ye forth to the farmer's field and take of what you need", nor did He say, "Go into another man's vineyard and eat his grapes and drink his wine".

The spirituality of all religions have turned them into bastions of support for homosexuality, same sex marriages, abortion, support for illegal immigration and interference in Caesar's world.

In this topsy turvy world of ours, people of deep moral convictions are more to be found in lay members who remember who God is and what His ministers are supposed to be doing.
