HOBE SOUND — Eleven people were detained Wednesday after illegally coming ashore in Hobe Sound, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.

Officials initially found five migrants — four Chinese nationals and one Jamaican national — near Bridge Road, not far from Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, U.S. Border Patrol Miami Division Chief Todd Bryant said.

U.S. Coast Guard and Border Patrol officials learned that a larger group, too, had been smuggled into the area.

Investigators said they landed nearby in a “go-fast” type vessel, according to Bryant.

On Wednesday evening and early Thursday officials detained six more smuggled Chinese nationals, Bryant said, with the help of Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission police and the Jupiter Island Public Safety Department.

The six females and five males all will be processed for removal, Bryant said, and turned over to Immigration and Customs for a final disposition.
