Border patrol agents detain 11 Haitian migrants, seek 2 others

The Associated Press

Authorities detained 11 Haitian illegal immigrants on Tuesday after they were found on a beach.

Eight men and three women were picked up on the beach at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea early Tuesday by sheriff's deputies and turned over to border patrol, said Steve McDonald, U.S. Border Patrol spokesman.

The migrants were being processed by Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for repatriation, McDonald said.

According to witnesses, two other illegal immigrants fled the group before officials arrived and authorities were searching for them, McDonald said.
