CORPUS CHRISTI —Border Patrol agents seized nearly $12.6 million worth of drugs being smuggled across South Texas the past four days.

The largest seizure occurred Friday after agents stopped a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 281 at a Falfurrias checkpoint, according to a news release.A drug-sniffing dog alerted agents to the presence of contraband. Further investigation found 4,500 pounds of marijuana wrapped in bundles inside.

Agents on Friday also found more than 2,600 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a grain hopper on a flatbed trailer during a seizure at the Sarita Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 77, according to the release.

Several additional marijuana and cocaine seizures in the Rio Grande Valley area brought the total weight of drugs seized at more than 13,000 pounds.
