WELLTON, Arizona — The Border Patrol says its agents seized a loaded handgun while apprehending eight men suspected of being involved with drug smuggling near the U.S.-Mexico border in southwestern Arizona.

The Border Patrol says the men were taken into custody Tuesday after agents encountered them on the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge east of Yuma and west of Lukeville.

According to the Border Patrol, the men entered the country illegally and appeared to be scouts for a narcotics smuggling operation.
