Immigrant deportees and immigration raids will be the focus of an upcoming Boston College conference.

The school is hosting conference Thursday on deportation, migration and human rights, featuring discussions on the effects of deportation raids across the U.S.

Filmmaker Luis Argueta is also scheduled to screen his documentary, "abUSed: The Postville Raid." The film chronicles the May 2008 arrests of 389 undocumented workers in Postville, Iowa, by the federal immigration agents.

Argueta will also speak about the Guatemalan mountain villages from which the workers migrated.

The conference is sponsored by Boston College’s Center for Human Rights and International Justice Post-Deportation Human Rights Project.

I am sure that he will infuse his opinion upon you. Even better, why host this when BOSTON COLLEGE will NOT ALLOW ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to attend school there. BC: Ya damn hyprocrites

They are Illegal aliens, not immigrants, and though I feel sorry for a lot of these people because of the poverty they are trying to escape. I feel more so sorry for the jobs that these people take away from American and legalize citizens. The only reason why factories hire these illegals is because they come cheap, don't have to pay them that much. I should know plenty of illegals took over jobs at my factory about 10 years ago, move the factory to Georgia and left the rest of us looking for other jobs.

How many illegal aliens do you see taking away jobs that Americans actually want? Without them the cost of produce, clothing, and numerous products will get out of control. To top it off they contribute $$ Billions of dollars a year to our already defunct Social Security system and get nothing in return. Be careful for what you wish for.

Tell that one to the many coworkers that found themselves out of jobs, and good paying ones at that.

I would be impressed if BC had a conference on job losses due to the importation of cheap labor. How nice of them instead to host a conference that makes them look comfortably good with the media and intellectual elites of Boston without getting down to the real issues. Millions of Americans are out of work, would do nearly all the jobs immigrants do, and would be net conributors to the social security system, unlike immigrants, around half of who receive welfare. We should have a law that states Americans have a first right to every job available. Even though illegals may be poor (many are also just trying to get more money than they could in their home countries), it is impossible by reason of numbers for all poor people in the world to come here and become productive parts of the economy. Ipso facto another solution has to be found. What is really needed is a better economic system that will allow people in other countries to do well. Why blame us and make us bear the burden when things go wrong in other parts of the world? Every person should feel he or she can make a decent life in the country and culture of birth, and if political change is necessary to bring that about, so be it. It would not be the first time people have had to fight against their political leaders. This used to be a well known fact; now immigrants supporters act as if poor people have no option but to come here. It makes one wonder how functional these people really are intellectually. Whether you like him or not, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela is an example of someone who is at least trying to make things better for his own people. He is not trying to get them to emigrate to the U.S. or Europe. The Mexican government just south of our border in turn is (at least were under Pres. Fox), and Mexico is the largest contributor to illegal immigration. You have to love that government for their sheer cheapness in dumping their problems on us. Nor do governments like Mexico's or illegal immigrants care about taking jobs from Americans. But we are expected to care about them. There is a double standard here, and it is unacceptable.

May God bless and watch over the undocumened who come here. I see no difference between them and my ancestors who escaped British tyranny in Ireland a 100 years ago. They work their tails off in thankless jobs and don't have any rights at all. Make a path for citizenship for any of them who are here working and not committing crimes. Don't confuse what the undocumented want with some liberal pinheads shouting for bilingual education and welfare programs. Most undocumented people aren't looking for that. They want their kids to learn English and they want a job. They buy goods and services and contribute to the economy. Lastly, America has aborted somewhere between 45 and 50 million babies since 1973. The native born US population isn't even replacing itself. Who do you think is going to do the work when the baby boomers retire?

If your family tree is like mine, or most others, they came here under the law in force at the time. Big difference between that and what\'s happening now. Also - at the time there was no welfare state. Families took care of their own with a bit of help from churches and charities.

WRGuy is a real idiot a major reason for abortions are situations in which pregnant women realize they can not afford to be a mother due to their own unemployment or low wages and underemployment and or that of the father. A major cause of this is that in parallel with easy availability of abortions there is high competition for jobs due to mass immigration and especially the presence of the of illegal aliens.
