WHOA. This is the second plot against Obama, isn't it? Wasn't some guy arrested in Florida not too long ago for something similar?
This is getting WAY out of control. It's not okay to kill someone, even if their politics are way off base. This country cannot deal with another assassinated president, or candidate, in this case.
Scary times, indeed. The flag flies at half-mast out of grief for the death of my beautiful, formerly-free America. May God have mercy on your souls.

What I find amazing about this story is that they are telling us they caught some racists on meth with rifles at a traffic stop and the suspects then began telling police they were in town to shoot Obama?
Either A. These are the most ignorant would be assassins imaginable unhinged by drugs and possibly mental illness. or
B. Someone is playing Duke Lacross on us with this story.
I can see the police stopping a car, finding guns, and drugs, but then "Hey we are in town to shoot Obama" ???
Could be a case of local cops hyping the story for it to be a big story?
Pretty strange.

Traffic Stop May Have Averted Obama Assassination Attempt
Traffic Stop May Have Averted Obama Assassination Attempt
Police: Gartrell Found With Rental Car, Rifles, Bulletproof Vest
POSTED: 6:23 pm MDT August 25, 2008
UPDATED: 9:33 pm MDT August 25, 2008
DENVER -- A suspect found in possession of a bulletproof vest, two rifles with a scope, boxes of ammunition, drugs and walkie talkies is being held for investigation of possible drug and firearms violations. But the FBI is also investigating reports that he had made death threats against Sen. Barack Obama, who will be in Denver this week to accept the Democratic nomination for president.
Aurora Police Detective Marcus Dudley said Monday that 28-year-old Tharin Robert Gartrell was arrested early Sunday and his arrest led to the arrest of two other suspects -- Nathan Johnson, 32, and Shawn Robert Adolf, 33.
Dudley said Gartrell was pulled over at about 1:30 a.m. near East Hampden Avenue and South Parker Road after a sergeant noticed a truck driving erratically. Gartrell was driving with a suspended license in a rental car that was not in his name, Dudley said.
The address on his license listed a home in Centennial but that is not his current address and police still do not know where he currently lives, Dudley said.
"Members of the agency are clearly on heightened alert based upon the security that's involved with a convention the size of the one that is occurring in Denver. Behavior like this can be characterized as highly suspicious. I mean we considered that the vehicle he was driving was not listed or registered to him. It was a rental car. It was not rented in his name. He has no known address, where he can be contacted here... the ammunition, the weapons -- clearly that would give one great concern," Dudley said.
At least one of the rifles was stolen out of Kansas, he said. Gartrell was on probation for previous drug charges. He is currently being held on $50,000 bond, but that could change depending on further charges.
FBI spokeswoman Kathy Wright said Gartrell is under investigation on drug and weapons charges. Wright declined to elaborate about the threat. The Joint Information Center, a command set up by Denver, state and federal authorities to field media inquiries during the Democratic convention, said it had no immediate comment.
Johnson was arrested Sunday at a Denver hotel at 4:30 a.m. Officers with the Aurora, Glendale and Greenwood Village police departments as well as federal law enforcement agencies made the arrest. Johnson is currently being held in Denver on drug charges.
Adolf was arrested at 5 a.m. Sunday at a Glendale hotel near Colorado Boulevard and Cherry Creek Drive South. As officers raided his room and tried to take him into custody, he jumped from a sixth-floor window of the hotel and tried to run away, Dudley said. He was found a short time later and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Dudley said.
He had seven outstanding warrants is being held on $1 million bond.
U.S. Attorney Troy Eid released a statement confirming the arrests had been made, but refused to comment on any possible assassination plot.
Eid said he would have a news conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss the arrest further.

If the authorities had anything remotely solid on Gartrell involving an assassination attempt, his bail would not be only $50,000
The guy could walk out of jail tonight for five grand paid to a bail bondsman.

Interesting note, looks like this guy Tharin Gartrell graduated from High School in 1999 and...
His High School Ft. Morgan High School, FT. MORGAN, CO,
Source
http://www.classmates.com/directory/pub ... 8698556452
Is only about an hour and a half drive from Columbine High School in Littleton. Just 93 miles.

6201 S Pierce St, Littleton, CO 80123 (Columbine High School)
Ft. Morgan High School, FT. MORGAN, CO
So he graduated High School a month after the Columbine massacre happened at a High School just 93 miles away.
They might have even had teams that played each other in sports.

It will be interesting to see if the media pundits start calling him "Tharin Robert Gartrell"
They always use a persons full name when they are an assassin like John Hinkley Jr., or James Earl Ray, or Lee Harvey Oswald... John Wilkes Booth etc..

FBI looks into Denver reports of threat on Obama
August 26, 2008 - 12:02am
By STEVEN K. PAULSON
Associated Press Writer
DENVER (AP) - Federal authorities are looking into reports that a man arrested with rifles, ammunition and drugs in his truck may have made threats against Barack Obama, officials said Monday.
Two other men were arrested in the case.
"It's premature to say that it was a valid threat or that these folks have the ability to carry it out," said a U.S. government official familiar with the investigation. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
Obama will be in Denver later this week to accept the Democratic nomination for president.
FBI spokeswoman Kathy Wright confirmed the FBI was investigating the reports but declined to elaborate. The Joint Information Center _ a command set up by Denver, state and federal authorities to field media inquiries during the Democratic convention _ said it had no immediate comment.
Tharin Cartrell, 28, was arrested during a traffic stop early Sunday by police in the eastern Denver suburb of Aurora. In his truck, officers found two rifles, including one with a scope; a bulletproof vest; boxes of ammunition; walkie-talkies; and suspected narcotics, said Aurora police Detective Marcus Dudley.
Police alerted federal authorities, who soon arrested Nathan Johnson, 32, in Aurora, Dudley said. A third man, Shawn Robert Adolf, 33, was arrested at an Aurora hotel, Dudley said. Adolf allegedly tried to escape officers by jumping from a sixth-floor window; he was hospitalized and held on $1 million bond.
Dudley didn't say what tied the three men together but that more arrests were possible. Aurora police alerted federal officials because of heightened security surrounding the Democratic convention, Dudley said.
U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said the case was under investigation. "We're absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado," Eid said in a statement.
Officials with the FBI, Secret Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Aurora police set a news conference for Tuesday afternoon.
Law enforcers in Denver are trying to find out whether the reported threats to Obama were valid. "It could also turn out that these were nothing but a bunch of knuckleheads, meth-heads," the U.S. government official said.
Cartrell was being held at the Arapahoe County jail on weapons charges and a felony drug charge. The jail said he didn't have a lawyer yet but one was due in court Thursday.
