Two men are facing criminal charges after Border Patrol agents allegedly caught them with 13 illegal immigrants from four different countries cramped into a mini-van.
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested Cesar Humberto Gonzalez and Francisco Javier Infante-Mata on human smuggling charges on Saturday.
Court records revealed that Gonzalez was behind the wheel of a mini-van loaded with more than a dozen people off Military Highway and Gonzalez Road.
Border Patrol agents pulled over the mini-van and found 13 illegal immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras inside.
Records show that Infante-Mata was also inside the van and is accused of being their smuggling guide.
Both men appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville on Monday.
Federal court records show Gonzalez is an American citizen while Infante-Mata is a Mexican national. Four immigrants are being held as witnesses in the case.
Judge Morgan denied bond for both men until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
