Burbank Home Depot Hiring Site in the News

    http://cbs2.com/local/local_story_010164212.html

(CBS) Burbank officials plan to celebrate the Thursday grand opening of a Home Depot and an adjacent hiring site. They also plan for protests.

The City Council had required Home Depot to construct a hiring site as a condition of building the store, stirring a public debate.

What do you think? Should hardware stores have a designated space for day laborers?

The Burbank City Council Meeting is tonight. Several activists will be attending. All the local news channels seem to be covering it.

Also, Mayor Mansoor was on the O'Reilly Factor tonight and the Cypress City Council was on Lou Dobbs.

The proper way of handling this kind of situation is to approach the laborers and to invite anyone who can show a legal residence to a dinner.

At the dinner speak to them about the benefits of reducing competition. Tell them they have the same right to receive protection offered to their own citizens and legal residents by such nations as Mexico. Tell them that if they find anyone acting as an employer who does not check for legal American work authorization they should turn them in.

After a while those legal day laborers will have gained such strength within the day labor center that illegal laborers and shady employers will both hesitate to approach it.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
