Burglary, home invasion suspects illegal immigrants
By BLAIR DEDRICK ORTMANN
January, 21, 2009
The three men arrested last week in connection with a string of burglaries and home invasions in Beaumont are illegal immigrants from Colombia, officials say.
Daniel Mikolay, resident agent-in-charge of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Beaumont, said the agency has put immigration holds on the men, meaning that they are not eligible for bond.
Amaury Algarin Ortiz, 26, John Mosquera Montano, 21, and Eduardo Orejuela Neiva, 22, all of Houston, are suspected in a string of crimes in Beaumont in the last eight months, although police have only officially charged them with one count of burglary so far.
The three were arrested Friday after concerned homeowners recognized the description of a dark green Honda and the suspects and called police.
Officer Crystal Holmes with the Beaumont Police Department said that two of the men claimed to be from Puerto Rico in initial interviews with detectives.
Puerto Ricans have U.S. citizenship, meaning someone from there would be in the United States legally, Holmes said.
When the men were booked into jail, authorities using fingerprint data discovered that all three were actually from Colombia, she said.
Mikolay said he didn't know how long the men have been in the United States, but they will be deported at some point in the future.
If convicted, they will serve time before being deported.
On Monday, officers executed two search warrants, one on a residence in Houston and one on the green Honda confiscated during the arrests Friday in Beaumont, said Officer Randy Stevens with the Beaumont Police. Two other search warrants in Houston were conducted Friday night.
"We did recover some property," he said.
The Katy Police Department recovered some items that had been strung out along the highway, he added.

Obama will pardon them just as he will with the Gitmo detainees and reward all of them with citizenship as he opposes all raids and enforcement measures. He cares only for those illegally in this country who committed identity theft and other crimes separated from their families for the same crimes committed by Americans who are separated from theirs while imprisoned. Napolitano said on Foxnews she will in essence ignore identity theft and the continued employment of illegal aliens by halting all raids and enforcement measures. The economy will never recover as long as the borders remain open and 5,000 to 10,000 illegally cross into this country every week which is a part of the administration's plan to finish what Bush started; the destruction of the middle class, our sovereignty and way of life.
There is no freedom without the law. Remember our veterans whose sacrifices allow us to live in freedom.
