Bush Administration Pushes For Flu Shots For Illegal Immigrants

Washington -- The Bush Administration has indicated it wants doctors, clinics, and hospitals to provide flu immunizations to illegal immigrants. At our EXPENSE should be added here.

In an interview with WSOC-TV, Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt was asked if the federal government has any safeguards to prevent illegal immigrants from catching the flu. Leavitt responded by saying doctors should give flu shots to 'every person'. Secretary Leavitt said, 'Most health departments in the country will provide a vaccination for anyone. Our purpose is to vaccinate every person who wants a flu vaccine – we're hoping to increase the numbers of those who want to have the flu vaccination.'

Leavitt’s public statement has drawn harsh reaction today from critics of the Administration’s immigration policy. 'On its face, it’s going to strike a majority of Americans as an outrage, because this is a population that’s here without the sanctioning of the U.S. government,' said John Keeley, spokesman for the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies. 'It’s now Bush Administration policy, and a directive to healthcare providers, to administer flu shots (to illegal immigrants).'

Free flu shots are NOT available to most American Citizens, unless they provide evidence that they cannot pay.

Legal Immigrants are required to pay for mandatory medical exams and vaccinations before immigrating. Most of them do not expect, and do not get, free flu shots.

Why then do those who consistently break the rules get free services, that the rest of us have to pay for??

Free flu shots are NOT available to most American Citizens, unless they provide evidence that they cannot pay.

And that's not an easy task. Not to mention in some cases it's only for those considered in the "high risk" groups. Which isn't regular adults unless you have asthma, immune disorder, or work in like a hospital setting, etc. Whoever can't get it during a shortage shouldn't be getting it free now and especially illegals who don't have to prove whether they have enough money or not. Just more tax dollars for more freebies for people who shouldn't be here to begin with.

I wouldn't get one even if they gave them free, but it ticks me off that they can without the BS I'd have to go through to get it.
