Bush: Would Sign Bill To Extend Mexico Border Fence -CNN
Wednesday September 20th, 2006 / 21h54
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- President George W. Bush told Cable News Network that he would sign into law a bill to erect a new 700-mile fence on the U.S.-Mexican border once it is finalized and submitted to him.
CNN broadcast excerpts of the interview, made a day after Bush addressed the U.N.'s General Assembly in New York.
According to CNN, Bush said he will sign the Mexican border legislation when it reaches his desk, even if it falls short of what he had earlier sought in a comprehensive immigration reform and guest-worker program.
The Senate is now moving toward crafting legislation to support the construction of the 700-mile double-layer fence, following a similar bill that the House passed last week.
