Border patrol agents confiscate more than $2.1 million in cocaine

United States Customs and Border Protection border patrol agents confiscated more than $2.1 million in cocaine today at a Highway 111 checkpoint, south of Indio.

Agents found the cocaine in a 1989 Toyota Camry station wagon that entered the inspection area at about 9 a.m. A K-9 detected the drugs near the vehicle’s rear seats, where a hidden compartment was found, according to a customs and border protection news release.

A Mexican citizen with a valid permanent resident card was arrested.

The suspect, vehicle and 68-pounds of cocaine were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation
