Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 17 people during a three-day operation in Madison and other southern Wisconsin communities.

The 17 are convicted criminals, fugitives or immigration violators, ICE said in a news release on Monday announcing the results of the operation that ended Sunday, conducted by the Milwaukee ICE division.

According to the news release:
Nine arrests were made in Madison, with the others arrested in Fitchburg, Fort Atkinson, Middleton, Sun Prairie, Watertown, Waukesha and the town of Windsor.
All of the 17 arrested were men. Fifteen are from Mexico, 1 from Honduras and 1 from Nicaragua.

One of the Madison arrests was of a 24-year-old Mexican man with prior convictions for battery, bail jumping and disorderly conduct. He had been deported in 2007 and came back to the U.S. illegally. He was arrested on Saturday.
