Ca- Possible cost-cutting plan to release 38,000 inmates

State weighing cost-cutting plan to release 38,000 inmates
    3:41 PM | May 7, 2009

California officials are weighing a plan to save hundreds of millions of dollars by commuting the sentences of 38,000 state prison inmates, including all undocumented immigrants now incarcerated.

They also are considering closing prisons and sending other inmates to county jails, according to a copy of the proposal obtained by The Times.

The plan is part of a series of cost-cutting proposals drafted by the Schwarzenegger administration to deal with the state's escalating budget shortfall and the potential failure of May 19 ballot measures that would raise revenue. The shortfall could quickly swell to at least $14 billion, officials have said.

“By releasing prisoners prior to the end of their sentences, many offenders will serve little to no time at all in a state prison or other incarceration for the commission of felonies,â€

He sure is the Terminator. He's killing California. If he wants to release all the Illegals take them to the farthest point in Mexico and drop them off. Then it may take them a while to get back here.

The Governor can't deport anyone to anyplace.
Only I.C.E. can deport people because immigration is controlled (or actually NOT controled) by the federal government.
As it says in the article ALL illegal aliens who are released will be turned over to I.C.E. for deportation.

I am glad to hear that illegals will be deported instead of sitting in prison on our dime....as long as they really do deport them. As for the other prisoners...where are they going to find jobs. People fresh out of prison have a hard time finding a job even in a good economy.

Now that Obama wants to eliminate reimbursements to states for these illegals in prisons they will surely be released and on top of that the propositions Arnold and his Sacramento buddies came up with to try to mislead the voters are destined to go down in defeat.

Arnold's acting is over in Sacramento, he should go back to doing movies where he belongs.

One problem I see with Arnold leaving is he promised to never let illegal aliens get California driver's license and he has kept that promise by vetoing the bill every time it has come up. The next governor might sign it or let it become law without his signature.

California was only getting reimbursed for 12 cents on the dollar for all of the money it spent incarcerating illegal aliens and now Obama wants to cut out that small amount too. And not just for CA. but for all states and counties.

California steps up efforts on cost of imprisoned illegals

Fifteen years after Congress promised that Washington would help states pick up the tab for imprisoning illegal immigrants convicted of committing crimes, California is receiving but a fraction — less than 12 cents on the dollar — of its nearly $1-billion annual cost . . .
