U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man early Thursday who was smuggled into the U.S. by jet ski. This is the second time this week agents have intercepted a jet ski smuggling attempt, an official said.

The Border Patrol was alerted about 5 a.m. by the Joint Harbor Operations Center (JHOC) and a concerned citizen’s phone call. They both reported a suspicious looking jet ski, which was heading north from Mexico along the coastline near Imperial Beach, according to Agent Mary Beth Caston.

JHOC alerted agents that a person had been dropped off near Imperial Beach Boulevard. Agents found a 32-year-old Mexican national man hiding among the rocks on the beach.

An immigration inspection revealed that the man was illegally present in the U.S. He was placed under arrest by agents and transported to a local Border Patrol station for processing.

On Sunday, agents arrested a man and woman who also had been smuggled into the U.S. by jet ski. The couple were dropped off near the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado and arrested shortly thereafter.

If you have information about maritime smuggling or suspicious activity along the coast of California, please contact the Joint Harbor Operations Center at 1-800-854-9834 or 9-1-1.
