Calexico Agents Arrest Two Convicted Sex Offenders in a Day

CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested two undocumented individuals, in two separate incidents, with prior sexual offense convictions on Tuesday.

The first incident occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m., when agents apprehended a group of six individuals who illegally entered through the Imperial County Sand Dunes, the desert area east of the city of Calexico. Record checks revealed one of the individuals, a 42-year-old male, Mexican national, was previously convicted for a sexual offense. Additionally, the subject was previously ordered to be removed from the U.S. by an immigration judge.

The second incident occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m., when agents apprehended a group of four individuals who illegally entered 12 miles east of the Calexico East Port of Entry and apprehended 14 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border. Record checks revealed one of the individuals, a 32-year-old male, Mexican national, was previously convicted for a sexual offense. Additionally, the subject was previously ordered to be removed from the U.S. by an immigration judge.

After each group was interviewed it was determined that none of the individuals possessed the proper documentation to be legally present in the United States. They were placed under arrest and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center.

The two sex offenders will be presented for federal prosecution and all other individuals will be removed from the U.S. under Title 42.

Since Oct. 1, 2021, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and/or removed 19 individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual offense charges.
