CBP Catches Homicide Suspect Wanted by LAPD

San Diego — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa port of entry stopped a fugitive Wednesday wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department for homicide.

At about 11:15 p.m. on April 4, Oscar Eduardo Aguilera arrived on foot at the Otay Mesa border crossing and presented his California driver’s license to the CBP officer. During a routine query of law enforcement databases, the officer discovered a warrant for his arrest.

CBP officers took Aguilera, a 23-year-old U.S. citizen and resident of North Hollywood, Calif., into custody and used fingerprint identification to confirm his identity. He is the subject of an outstanding no bail felony warrant for homicide, issued at the request of the Los Angeles Police Department, and was turned over to LAPD detectives.

“Immediate access to our law enforcement databases is crucial,” said Bruce Ward, Assistant Port Director for the Otay Mesa Passenger Port of Entry. “We maintain the security of our communities by using these databases to catch fugitives with active warrants, no matter where those warrants may be issued from.”

Last fiscal year, the San Diego Field Office apprehended 2,046 fugitives with active warrants for their arrest.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
