It might come in handy if there is any "fudging" of the numbers too!
Census bureau to fingerprint a half million temporary workers

Associated Press - June 11, 2008 3:23 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Census Bureau will fingerprint and conduct background checks on more than a half million temporary workers who will go door to door for the 2010 national head count.

Census Director Steven Murdock tells a congressional committee that it would be "absolutely devastating to the census" if any of the temporary workers committed a crime while on the job.

Murdock says the bureau is working to reduce the $340 million it is expected to cost to do the fingerprinting and background checks.

New York Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, a member of the House Oversight Committee, asked why the bureau couldn't have come up with the program years ago "instead of at the last minute."

The 2010 census is already over budget because of a botched technology contract.
