Wednesday, 22 Feb 2012, 3:19 PM ESTBARNSTABLE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - An illegal immigrant living in Barnstable was arrested on drug charges on Tuesday following a week long investigation aided by ICE agents.

Thiago M. Depaula, of 43 Spring Street, Hyannis, was arrested at approximately 6:45 p.m. by Barnstable police officers and ICE agents who suspected the illegal alien who may be wanted in Brazil was selling drugs out of his residence.

Police executed a search warrant at the apartment and seized two grams of cocaine, a digital scale, narcotics packaging, and approximately $2,574 in cash.

Depaula, who was in the apartment at the time of the search warrant, was arrested. He is charged with possession of cocaine, intent to distribute, and receiving stolen property.

Also inside the apartment police found a second resident, 36-year-old Claudinei Paula De Souza.

De Souza had reportedly already been deported back to Brazil previously and is suspected of once again reentering the United States illegally.

ICE officials are continuing their investigation relative to Depaula’s and De Souza’s immigration status, and Depaula’s criminal charges in Brazil.

Depaula is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at Barnstable District Court.
