Congressman Says Shooting Death Of Patrol Agent Sheds Light On Weak Immigration Laws

    by Personal Liberty News Desk

The recent shooting death of a United States Border Patrol agent should be a wake-up call for President Barack Obama, according to Representative Lamar Smith (R-Texas).

Smith, who will serve as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee during the next congressional session, said that the murder of Brian Terry on Dec. 14 sheds light on America's lax immigration policies. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, Terry was fatally shot near Rio Rico, Ariz. while trying to catch bandits who target illegal immigrants for robbery.

Smith reported that about 28,000 people have been killed along the U.S.-Mexico border since 2005, including 1,000 law enforcement officers.

"Our border remains porous and the Obama administration has done nothing to stop the steady flow of human and drug smuggling from Mexico," Smith said in a statement.

In the statement, Smith questioned how many more Americans will die before the Obama administration starts taking illegal immigration seriously.

According to The Washington Post, a joint U.S.-Mexico committee met for the first time on Dec. 15 to address border violence. The committee was created by Obama and Mexico President Felipe Calderon.

I guess it depends on how many are considered expendable and what they believe are tolerable loses to advance their agenda.
