A pro-immigration enforcement activist says he's willing to support a primary challenger to Rep. Paul Ryan, the newly elected Speaker of the House.

In past weeks, Ryan received support from House conservatives when he was elected speaker, including the tea party-backed Freedom Caucus.

But the Wisconsin congressman supports amnesty for illegal aliens and voted to fund what some critics views as Obama's illegal and unconstitutional amnesty executive orders. His views on immigration haven't changed, causing worries about some of his colleagues who oppose amnesty.

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC, says Ryan won't try to pass amnesty legislation through the House.

"Which he knows he can't get through," Gheen observes.

In fact, the worried House Freedom Caucus obtained a written promise from Ryan that he would would not pursue immigration-related legislation, National Review Online reported, after obtaining a copy of the letter.

NRO quoted a letter from Rep. Mo Brooks to Ryan:

I need your assurance that you will not use the Speaker’s position to advance your immigration policies . . . because there is a huge gap between your immigration position and the wishes of the American citizens I represent.

Instead, Gheen is concerned that Ryan will follow the model of now-former Speaker John Boehner, which was to "protect and facilitate" President Obama's "overthrow" of the U.S. Constitution by his executive orders.

The memory of John Boehner (pictured at right) is not favorable to longtime Ohio activist Phil Burress. He lives in the 8th congressional district that elected Boehner and says conservatives there have a message for the former speaker's replacement.

"Our message to the candidates is we will not accept another Boehner," Burress tells OneNewsNow. "We will not accept another person who just goes along with the Republican Party because of threats or arm wrestling."

Boehner surprised Congress and political observers when he announced in September that he was stepping down as speaker and even resigning from his seat at the end of October. Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy was expected to step into the speaker's role but he ruled out a run, setting up Ryan's run for the post after first refusing to be considered.

Following Boehner's resignation, a special primary election is set for next March in the 8th District to coincide with the state's presidential primary. A special General Election is set for June.

Burress, who oversees Citizens for Community Values, says frustration with Republican Party leaders is the reason outsiders are popular in the current presidential primary.

The voters in the 8th District, he says, will not send a new representative back to D.C. unless "they're going up there and making a change, and speaking out against the wrong doings of the Republican Party."

Gheen says Ryan is already on ALIPAC's "Cantor List," a reference to the Virginia congressman who was ousted by conservative voters in the GOP primary in 2014. Cantor lost to Dave Brat, who exposed Cantor's pro-illegal alien voting record during the campaign.

Gheen predicts that Wisconsin voters can "retire" Ryan in the GOP primary, citing poll numbers that show 80 percent of his constituents don't support amnesty for illegal aliens.

Thanks to Gheen and the House Freedom Caucus for bringing up the immigration issues to the new Speaker. At the very least, he knows that he's on thin ice.
