Crossroads GPS launches $100,000 ad campaign promoting Senate immigration bill

Crossroads GPS announced a $100,000 advertising campaign in favor of the Senate’s immigration reform bill Monday, revealing a new ad that will run in the Wall Street Journal and Capitol Hill publications.
The ad — signed by 53 business owners, economists, and Republicans — pushes lawmakers to move forward with immigration reform.
“The immigration reform bill moving through the Senate is an important starting point toward rebuilding America’s dysfunctional, porous immigration system,” the ad, set to run in print and online, reads in part.

According to Crossroads GPS CEO Steven Law, while the legislation needs more work to protect the homeland and American workers, the country must confront immigration reform.
“The Senate immigration bill needs an ‘extreme makeover’ before we can say it really protects our borders and our workers, but it’s important that Congress move forward on it and not just throw up its hands,” Law said in a statement Monday.
The ads come as the Senate is debating the “Gang of Eight’s” immigration reform bill and the House is working on crafting theirs. According to Law, lawmakers must pass something before Obama pushes his own agenda.
“This isn’t just about politics; it’s about taking responsibility for solving a critical national problem.” Law added. “If we lose this opportunity to pass meaningful immigration reform, we will give President Obama an opening to shift immigration policy further to the left by executive fiat.”
Some of the signers include former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, former RNC chairman Ed Gillespie, former Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno, former director of the Congressional Budget Office Douglas Holtz-Eakin, and Karl Rove, former senior advisor to President George W. Bush.
“The road ahead won’t be easy,” the ad says. “But if we truly want America to remain a great nation, its leaders need to step up and accomplish great things.”
